How to Break a Shopping Ban

Chris unashamedly and unabashedly reads my Lucky magazines. He claims I just leave them lying around and there's nothing else to read, so what else is a guy to do. Hmph.

Not complaining, though, because he was rifling through the November issue, found the above boots, marked them, and lo and behold, they're on sale on Zappos (as it is now almost summer, and officially not boots weather).

Save $100 on boots hubby and I both dig? Don't mind if I do...

Wanna be twinsies? Here's the link to buy. Btw, sounds like they run a little small, so size up...
Happy Memorial Day, everyone!

Luminescent Top OOTD and Specials of the Day (for the Trader Joe's guy)

Hellooo! TGIF, girlfriends! 'Course, with a baby and working from home, everyday is Friday. But then again, everyday is Monday. Except actual Monday. Somehow, it is worse. Anyway, here's what we've been up to:

Contemporary Art? possibly. Or just a blank wall in our laundry hallway that was crying out--SOBBING, to be painted over with some chalkboard paint. At least that's what Chris thought.
So, the ingredients:
1. One blank wall, wiped down
2. Chalkboard paint that has been waiting around to be used for at least a year
3. A loving and handsome husband who is suddenly struck with inspiration and a rare rush of frenetic energy
4. Paintbrush, roller, paper to line the floor, tape, and a lazy Sunday afternoon (yes, this was started last weekend--sorry we haven't talked lately)

5. Next, after hubby has painted and papered and cleaned and wiped, stand in front of the new wall, posing casually with a tight-lipped smile, wearing:
Anthro Konichiwa sweater
Anthro Tiny Luminescent top (sold out online, but still in stores, buy here on Ebay)
7 for mankind jeans, gifted from a very generous friend
6. Continue staring off into middle distance while pondering existentialism. And the situation in Libya. Or if we turned off the iron.
7. Show luminescence of the Luminenscent top. Oh so shiny--It had me at sequin-plus-casual-raw-stitched edges.
It falls to the hip, and is great for layering, too. Especially since the hook-eye closures at the chest seem to pop open and display one's NOT-sexy nursing bra to the Trader Joe's checkout guy at the most inoppurtune moments.
Like, "Ma'am, were you paying with debit, CREDIT!!?" Awkward. I guess we all have to suffer sometime or another for fashion. It was apparently his turn. To suffer.
Ok, back to the drawing board.
8. Wait 2 days for paint to dry
9. Then have your significant person climb up on a little stepstool and write down all the things you and SO like to eat.
10. Make sure he draws a picture of you first. And don't let him overdraw your freckles, damnit.
Granted, these "specials" will be foods that you may or may not have any earthly idea how to make. The fun is not in eating them. The fun is just in writing them down in overly curly cursive.
11. Stare together at that fave foods list for a while. A worthy and lofty goal.
12. Then, after a dose of reality, start a list of your favorite restaurants. Wherein you can order the aforesaid specials. And they will be delivered quite handily to your table and henceforth into your awaiting mouth!

We listed our top 16 favorite restaurants. In no particular order.

You will notice that Souplantation (a chain of healthy soup/salad buffets) and Chipotle (of humongous burrito fame) both made it on there. As did the Original Pancake House (my personal favorite restaurant, but only because of the Eggs Michael and the fresh squeezed orange juice that never fails to blow my mind). It's only because we are such HIGH brow people.

Clearly indicated by having a chalkboard that shows our lofty goals as well as our grim and gritty realities. Whaddya think?

This time, more photos, less talk?

Loved Tiny's Luminescent top. Ended up buying it.

Loved it. Suggested by SA. Wish they had it in a XS. Gorgeous shape!

Cute shape. Probably not for me. But this is what happens when they leave them in the dressing room. Gotta try it.

Getchyer own Pinterest Invite!

Hi kids,

Did anyone else get up at the crack of dawn for Anthro's early tag sale, check out Roxy's list of tag sale items and then think, "It's raining, I'm tired, I can't find anything in my closet anyway. And damnit, I'm out of hangers," and then just flop back into bed instead of rushing out there with the baby to buy more stuff? No, just me? Just wondering.

Um. Anywhoo. Does anyone else LOVE their pinterest boards like I do? Or at least wants to check it out?

I'm happy to invite you--it will speed up your pinterest account wait list time. Then you can spend hours looking at pictures of huge bunnies, baby hedgehogs, and hilarious quotes, too.

The cool thing is that you can keep track of all the things you like online, without cluttering up your desktop or your bookmarks.

Of course, keeping track of and expanding your style inspiration board is awesome. It keeps one from running to Anthro at crazy o'clock and buying everything up, just because there's a tag sale going on.

See how neat and tidy? And free? Hooray for free! Seriously, I'm not selling anything. I just love me some pinterest boards.

Want your own account?

Just be a follower and comment below with your email. I'll invite as many people as I can (i.e. until Pinterest says no or Avery starts screaming).

Hurry! I want to see your fun, stylish boards!

Powerful Fitting Room Reviews: Villa Mysteriis Top, Summer Tartan Tank, and Breezy Paperbag Shorts

Hey girls--
Quick and dirty review (because sometimes you just want to make things simpler than they were in the past when they were really unnecessarily complicated with all the details just making them all LESS simple than they could have been and just because you like to try new formats and stuff):

1. Love gray and yellow? I mean, who doesn't. That's why I picked up the Villa Mysterris Top to try on. The fabric is light and a bit sheer, but gorgeous print (I wanted to wallpaper my entire house with it--however, not being given that option, I just ended up trying on the top).

Fit was kinda blousy and square. Somewhat retro--reminds me of the shells my mom wears to work under her big shoulder padded blazers (so cute on you, Mom!). Not the most flattering look for me. However, I did like them better tucked into the Breezy Paperbag shorts by Daughters of the Lib.

2. Which, can't say I liked these shorts initially. I have my doubts about anything that is high-waisted and mom's-jeans-esque. But I loved the color, the light cotton/linen blend, the deep pockets, and even the belt which is just speaks casual. I also like the sailor style of the buttons down the diagonals.

Still, I don't think this is the most flattering cut of all--would prefer a lower waisted item, albeit in the same color and similar style. I know the paper bag look is in right now--but not for me. Will seek out another shorts option next visit.

3. Lill's Summer Tartan tank caught my eye online and I was looking fwd to trying it on. I imagined a light and summery top--given the name and appearance. I was suprised to find how thick the cotton was, and how unflattering the cut. I guess a belt would have helped, too. The detail seemed more interesting online and the overall effect was dowdy in person.
The sizing is fine--I tried on the xs and it grazed my hips with no pulling at the buttons.
I'm downgrading it from my wishlist to 2nd cut only.

Anyone else tried these items on? Yes, that's Avery in the power-stroller taking a power-nap. I've decided to re-label everything in my life, the power-fill-in-the-blank to make myself feel more, well...strong.

Like, I'm power-blogging right now. I re-power-formatted the blog this time. I had a power-breakfast this morning. I had a power-conference call yesterday, which I needed a power-massage to recover from.

Unfortunately, Avery seems to be power-teething and is power-wailing a lot lately. Poor power-pumpkin.

I am hoping Anthro will all have a power-sale next week. But for now, have a powerful day!

Pinterest is doing a great job of distracting me from Anthro. Will not have a problem not shopping. At least for tonight.

Check out pinterest--it's addictive. But it's free. And free is cheaper than shopping.
