A Love Story: Unconditional...Ossier

Anyone want to hear a true love story? It stars my friends, Shilpa and Iyan. And Anthro. Seriously.

Here's the Dress. The Unconditional Ossier.

Here's the Girl (on the right), Shilpa with her husband, Iyan.

She's my very good friend from school, who now lives up north (where my family lives), while I live down south (where her family lives). Got it?

In short, Iyan wanted to buy Shilpa a Christmas gift--the Unconditional Ossier. See the emails below.

A few days later:

A week later:

Then:

December 15: My dad brings the dress up north, from my house.

December 21: I come up north to visit my family, including my newborn nephew (hi Carson!)

December 23, 4 pm: Iyan comes to pick up the dress from our family's house during the daytime.

December 23, 9 pm:  I go to their house to say hi to Shilpa, pretending not to have seen Iyan a mere 5 hours earlier.

December 23, 10 pm: We take a picture in front of their Christmas tree. I'm smirking bc Iyan is taking the picture and I'm trying NOT to shout out,"He bought the Unconditional Ossier for you!!"

Btw, she always looks this good. Even in her jammies.

I had even offered to bring the dress over that night, and sneak it by Shilpa somehow but Iyan thought she would be suspicious. He was THAT devoted to the cause--so he drove all over town and rolled back his odometer and covered his tracks.

December 25: Iyan gives the dress to Shilpa. Fireworks ensue.

Isn't that a sweet story? See? Chivalry isn't dead.

I've been overseas with Chris' family for the holidays, so haven't blogged or been to the store in the last 10 days. Hope you all have been merry and bright.

Happy belated holidays, everyone!

Much love,
Shelia

That Dweam. Wivin a Dream.

Mawwiage. Mawwiage Is What Bwings Us Togeva Today. Mawwiage, that Bwessed Event. That Dweam! Wivin a Dweam!--priest from "Princess Bride"

A few weeks ago, my hilarious, artsy, amazingly talented friend Kat married her handsome Prince Charming on a quiet hillside above Laguna Beach.

We sat on handsewn picnic blankets and Chinese sweatshop-produced personalized pillows (by that, I mean me and Kat's other Asian friends) along the bridal path. She glided down with a joyous smile, looking radiant, never tearing her eyes from her beloved.

Even my mediocre iPhone camera captures her how stunning and happy she looked on that lovely afternoon. Please excuse the wedding photographer's right buttock, which did NOT look stunning. Or happy.

We had a wonderful time. Laughs, taco-truck tacos (muy delicioso! and worth the wait), and Smilebooth photos were had in excess.

My favorite line by the MC:"Kat's Asian, Dennis is Black, so of course, we're having Mexican food for the reception."

Oh, Dude. That Smilebooth--so fun! Chris and I might have to have a permanent one in our backyard somewhere.

The girls (Rita, Kimi, Kat, me and a stowaway):
and me and my man:
Take I--a bit askew
 Take II--still off
 Take III--finally getting it.
OOTD:
UO sweater
F21 dress
JCrew necklace
Cowboy hat, monocle, mustache and Thurston Howell III sold separately
Hugs to Kat and Dennis! Joyous occasions like this are few and far between. You know. Taco trucks are a rarity.

Chris and I are so lucky to have my mom here this weekend. You know what that means...catching up on Project Runway (we are losing our PR contest so far), maybe an Anthro run, and sleeping in. In other words, HEAVEN.
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend with those nearest and dearest to you.

swing style

here's further proof that swing dancers rock awesome style. this is amanda from my swing class.

we had a balboa workshop today in el segundo. wish i had been able to get my iphone to cooperate with me, so i could post a vid. this is NOT what balboa usually looks like, but i love it anyway. it's usually sleek, smooth, and quite subtle.

anyway, i noticed a couple months ago that the beautiful amanda always had awesome, fresh, anthro-esque style. today she was kind enough to allow me to take a picture. thanks, amanda! check it.

cardi: express (circa 2 weeks ago), dress: H & M (2009), belt: french connection, bag: H & M, shoes: dancestore.com.

nalynne at thanksgiving

we were in ohio for faux-thanksgiving, an event that occured this year because i was working on the holiday weekend. so we trooped over to nalynne's house and had turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and all manner of comfort food.

we lazed around and watched movies, strolled through the neighborhood fall folliage, and played skip-bo with grandma. then, the golden moment--nalynne proudly marched me through all her new anthro items in her closet.

as a professional graphic designer, nalynne is artsier and much more creative than me. she buys things that are appear either outrageous or uninspired on the rack, but look fabulous in person. she's just like, oh look--here's an amazing outfit, waiting to happen. observe.

nalynne

so much style. so much anthro. she always looks awesome.
we went to anthro during her stay here, and that plaid top was calling to her. she had to go back the very next day when she realized that she couldn't live without it.
completely understand.
